4. Whether horse racing will ever return to the Great Barrington Fairgrounds has become a battle over home rule, with state Sen. Adam Hinds submitting a bill that would grant state permission. A special town meeting on the issue may be scheduled:

5.  Carolyn Newberger is providing our readers with remarkable reflections — in the spirit of Henry David Thoreau’s On Walden Pond — of the land around her house in Lenox.
