Show Notes

The Berkshire Edge LLC is a locally owned, regional publication. Our goal is to provide – regularly and in depth – content that truly reflects the life, interests and aspirations of this unusually rich and vibrant community.

Guided by respected journalistic standards, the principle of fairness, the quest for truth, a commitment to social, economic and environmental justice, and an abiding admiration for the independent spirit of the Berkshires, The Berkshire Edge offers in-depth local news reports and features, perspectives on the arts, wide-ranging commentary, and a comprehensive calendar of events – all written, illustrated, and, in some cases performed, with wit, intelligence, insight and humor.

1. Holiday happenings:
There’s plenty of joy to be had in the Berkshires this holiday season, in spite of the pandemic. We have a roundup of events (and we’ll be updating it the weeks ahead):
https://theberkshireedge.com/holiday-happenings-updated-december-8/

2. But back to more serious topics, Dr. Richard Kessin (of Norfolk, Conn.) has written an assessment of the COVID19 vaccines that may protect us from the pandemic:

3.  Great Barrington is in dire need of affordable housing, so it was good news when the Selectboard endorsed a proposed for converting a vacant nursing home complex to affordable apartments. Now it’s up to the Planning Board:https://theberkshireedge.com/selectboard-gives-green-light-to-maple-avenue-apartments-ball-now-in-planning-boards-court/

4. Just in time for the holidays the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office has established a “Domestic Violence High Risk Team” to strengthen her office’s response to domestic violence:https://theberkshireedge.com/berkshire-district-attorneys-office-launches-domestic-violence-high-risk-team/

5. Another good news community story is the collaboration of small business and social justice proponents, to conduct public discussions of race, sexism and religion, all in the wake of the George Floyd killing in Minneapolis:https://theberkshireedge.com/social-justice-and-small-businesses-join-forces-in-unity-through-community/

6. Berkshire Reads, a feature of our magazine, introduces you to recently published books by local authors available, of course, at local bookstores:https://theberkshireedge.com/berkshire-reads/

toni7.  And last but not least is another story about cannabis — this one features home delivery service for pot:https://theberkshireedge.com/business-monday-new-rules-for-cannabis-home-delivery-spark-opposing-reactions-among-local-dispensarie
