Show Notes

The Berkshire Edge LLC is a locally owned, regional publication. Our goal is to provide – regularly and in depth – content that truly reflects the life, interests and aspirations of this unusually rich and vibrant community.

Guided by respected journalistic standards, the principle of fairness, the quest for truth, a commitment to social, economic and environmental justice, and an abiding admiration for the independent spirit of the Berkshires, The Berkshire Edge offers in-depth local news reports and features, perspectives on the arts, wide-ranging commentary, and a comprehensive calendar of events – all written, illustrated, and, in some cases performed, with wit, intelligence, insight and humor.

1.  To lead off, let’s take a look at a package of news: a. A permit to add hangars to the Great Barrington Airport has been put on hold — again.
b. On the other hand, Guido’s Fresh Marketplace was given the green light to nearly double the size of their popular market.
c. Rate adjustments for customers of the Housatonic Water Works may be forthcoming… the water system for the village of Housatonic has been plagued by bouts of cloudy, dirty water.
d. And the ban on single use water bottles has been reinstated — eventually.

2.  In spite of all, it’s harvest time, and Berkshire Grown has issued a guide — online -- of local farmstands, where to find the produce from local farms:

3. A Worcester-based nonprofit has opened a drug treatment facility in Housatonic — in a former bar, no less — in the belief that Southern Berkshire was underserved when it comes to attending to drug addiction:

4.  Even though the Tanglewood Music Center is not offering its full array of live concerts,  you can still enjoy streaming performances by BSO musicians, writes our music writer David Edwards. In particular he cites a video of BSO musicians performing string quartets Mozart, Roumain and Schubert that will be available through Friday, Aug. 28:

5.  The Berkshire Hills Regional School District has adopted a hybrid model for opening the school year:

6. And finally, out of our online magazine, we have a survey of day trips:
