The Berkshire Edge LLC is a locally owned, regional publication. Our goal is to provide – regularly and in depth – content that truly reflects the life, interests and aspirations of this unusually rich and vibrant community.
Guided by respected journalistic standards, the principle of fairness, the quest for truth, a commitment to social, economic and environmental justice, and an abiding admiration for the independent spirit of the Berkshires, The Berkshire Edge offers in-depth local news reports and features, perspectives on the arts, wide-ranging commentary, and a comprehensive calendar of events – all written, illustrated, and, in some cases performed, with wit, intelligence, insight and humor.
This week we talk about:
1. Berkshire District Attorney Andrea Harrington establishes a county task force to combat domestic violence and sexual assault:

2. The town of Great Barrington is making a big push to promote public transportation and has proposed an upgraded Berkshire Regional Transit Authority bus route schedule and routes for South County:https://theberkshireedge.com/great-barrington-public-transit-advisory-committee-releases-proposal-calling-for-added-service/
3. Berkshire Grown has acquired an additional connotation. The state has approved the first outdoor growing site for cannabis — and it’s in Sheffield. Oddly, it’s a partnership between Theory Wellness and Ted Dobson’s Equinox Farm… not too long ago Dobson was arrested for growing pot amongst his arugula.

4. In the mood for maple syrup? We have a fine little feature on the sugaring operation at Gould Farm in Monterey:

5. And while we’re speaking of maple trees, and the liquid gold they produce when temperatures hover just below the freezing mark at night, we ran a long review of a book on climate change, ’The Uninhabitable Earth.”

6. And for a brief look at some notable opportunities, there’s the American Brass Quintet at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, under the aegis of Close Encounters with Music, and the ThinkFOOD conference at Simon’s Rock. This is the 6th annual ThinkFOOD conference taht spends the day examining the state of agriculture and nutrition in America:https://theberkshireedge.com/bits-thinkfood-conference-jill-soloway-at-williams-bring-it-to-the-light-music-festival/
