Show Notes

The Berkshire Edge LLC is a locally owned, regional publication. Our goal is to provide – regularly and in depth – content that truly reflects the life, interests and aspirations of this unusually rich and vibrant community.

Guided by respected journalistic standards, the principle of fairness, the quest for truth, a commitment to social, economic and environmental justice, and an abiding admiration for the independent spirit of the Berkshires, The Berkshire Edge offers in-depth local news reports and features, perspectives on the arts, wide-ranging commentary, and a comprehensive calendar of events – all written, illustrated, and, in some cases performed, with wit, intelligence, insight and humor.

This week we talk about:

1. Addiction in the Berkshires: Sara’s Story
This is a four-part first-person narrative compiled by one of our writers, Sheela Clary, from tapes she recorded,  about a young woman in the Berkshires who descended into heroin addiction.  It’s quite moving. We’ve run three parts in successive days… Wednesday night is the fourth.. and last:

Part II: https://theberkshireedge.com/saras-story-addiction-in-the-berkshires-chapter-two-addiction/

2. Once again, into the breach, dear friends… The Berkshire Hills Regional School Committee is once again considering a renovation of 50-year-old Monument Mountain Regional High School.. Several years ago, voters turned it down. Never say never, I guess:

3. Our feature writer Hannah Van Sickle profiles Bizalion’s, a fine food market in Great Barrington with a French twist, that is celebrating its 15th year in business. The owners are Jean-Francois and Helen Bizalion … and it is a little taste of Europe in their Great Barrington shop.

4. Finally, in our real estate section — which runs each Friday as Real Estate Friday —there are articles about home ownership… and one of them is a column called “Transformations.” Often, it is written by an architect about renovating or restoring a property.. But this week we have interior designer Sue Schwarz talking about what to do with that old couch!  Now there’s a practical topic… and she’s got some good ideas:
